If you have read my recent blog post or followed me on Twitter, then you might have noticed that I am currently planning my next big trip in the upcoming weeks, which is going to be South America #yeah #countingdownthedays 😎
And Peru is on the list. A friend of mine, who came from Peru originally visited Berlin this weekend (what a positive coincidence) *hihi* I told him about my travel plans and we decided to catch up over Peruvian food. My second try but first time visiting a Peruvian restaurant. The very first time I came across this cuisine was during the Berlin Food Week a couple of years ago…
My friend used to live in Berlin before moving to another European city for work. During this time he has tried many Peruvian restaurants in Berlin and recommends that Chicha is the best one.
That’s why we went there – you should always try to eat local food with a local 😉 Chicha Ceviche: Label rouge corvina, sweet potato and aji amarillo Tiger’s milk (my favourite, I can have this every day) Causaki Acevichado (so-so, the spiciness doesn’t really match here. I would either leave the spiciness out or have it extra spicy) Lomo Saltado (stir fried that combines marinated strips of sirloin with onions, tomatoes and potatoes fries. The meat was surely a little too overcooked) I forgot the name of the dessert, which is served with marshmallows (nice idea but a little bit too much sugar for me) My first impression of Peruvian food: almost all dishes come with potatoes, which I don’t mind. I mean potatoes originally came from there before it got spread around the world. Moreover, I like seafood and fresh ingredients. So perfect combination for me 😀
Overall Experience: 8/10 (Since I haven’t been to Peru to taste the real food there, I don’t have any comparison but I really like the food and how each dish is served. Definitely a restaurant place for re-visiting in the future. Plus, I already have Causa de Pulpo (with grilled octopus) on the list for my next visit 😉 Service was okay – friendly but bit forgetful, which at certain point I can understand since the restaurant was very well visited; even till midnight. I highly recommend making a reservation in advance! In terms of price – it’s not the cheapest place to eat. Each plates starts from around €10 and you surely need to order at least 2 since the servings are all “small plates”, and no single dish here will fill you up).
