Let’s Go To Keukenhof

The Keukenhof Tulip Festival has been always on my bucket list. Apparently, it is the most beautiful spring garden in the world.

My first tulip festival visit was during my time in Australia, where I visited the one in Bowral. I was amazed by the colour of the tulips and by the different varieties this flower can have. Then, after my return to Europe, I visited the Britzer Garten Tulip Festival last year, and I was a bit disappointed. And this year I finally got the chance to see the “original” Made in Holland version, which makes everybody talking about 🙂

After an energetic breakfast by my personal “master chef” C we made our way towards Keukenhof.

From Amsterdam city centre to Lisse is about 1h drive (depending on the traffic). We were super lucky with the weather – sunshine nonstop and the temperature were even warmer than in Belgium, where we spent the days before.

We arrived during the late noon time and the park was, like I expected, already overcrowded with locals and tourists from all over the world. Luckily, we bought our tickets online in advance to skip the queue.

The park is super huge. More than seven million tulips, daffodils and hyacinths fill over 32 hectares with colour and fragrance. The Theme of this year is “Dutch Design”.

Such a beautiful day. I can come here every day.

I wouldn’t say that we arrived too early but surely, one or two weeks later might be even better since more tulips might be blossoming by then.

This year the tulip festival is open from 23 March until 21 May 2017, and it opens daily between 8am and 7.30pm. I would highly recommend purchasing the tickets online in advance to avoid the long queue, and please bring at least 3-4hours with you on this trip or even more. Furthermore, if you can’t make it this year, and you are planning to visit it one day – please bear in mind to arrive few weeks after the official opening date. The advantage might be that the park is less overcrowded but simply due to the fact that the majority of the flowers are still holding their “winter sleep”.
