Rutz Restaurant

Reading Time: 4 minutes

Yeah, I received the early happy news from my supervisor this afernoon that I have passed my probationary period!! (^.^)v And to celebrate this, well among others… C booked us a table at Rutz, a winebar / Michelin guided restaurant, situated in Mitte. On our arrival we were greeted warmly by the restaurant manager and they got us a table reserved on the second floor by the window and it was amazing. In general, all of their staffs were very friendly and attentive. Their surprise menu comes with four to ten courses or “experiences” (what they called it). We opted for 6 and 8 since 10 would be too much. And it really was! Even 6 was a bit of too much since I didn’t like the “additional” courses. I didn’t even finish the “dove” one, which tasted disgusting in my opinion, but more on that later. Anyway, each food was beautifully prepared based on carefully selected, top-of-the range ingredients in their own individual style. We were even told that Rutz has their own farmer that grows vegetables and herbs specifically just for them which ensures freshness. In general, what I like most here is that food wasn’t only just served; the waiter took the time to explain each dish, beside the ingredients and where it was grown but also why it was chosen and how it should be eaten for the optimal taste experience. Simply amazing the service.

To overcome the waiting time for our first menu to arrive they offered “free” food in between (which I am sure are calculated in the end price).

It all started off with “three starters”

pumpkin flavored coffee_starter cucumber slices_starter bread and crackers_starter

Followed by the 1st dish – Baltic Sea Salmon beets & honey, fennel, pepper dust

2nd dish – By the water chives sprouts & sour clover, cheese stock

3rd dish – Onion plants egg yolk & ox marrow, caramel (I didn’t really like that)

4th dish – Tomato-Stulle cold rye & crispbread, goat feta granité

5th dish – Sunroot & blackcurrant

6th dish – Dove & elder capers, wild broccoli, black garlic (apparenty it was première since they served this creation for the first time. I simply didn’t like it at ALL!! I wish they would be able to offer the option of switching this one to something else off the menu instead of being not that flexible consider the price that we paid for each course)

little break before we continue with dish numero 7 😀

ice cream

7th dish – Kohrabi & shoulder sour salty, fire & whey

Another break before the grand final

rasberry dessert

8th dish – Garden raspberry beetroot, pumpkin & soil (amazing this one)

garden raspberry beetroot, pumpkin & soiland more dishes before the final bill arrives – they simply know how to keep their guests to stay longer in the restaurant *hihi*

ice cream desserts home made chocolate

All in all it was a wonderful experience. Only downtime, the long waiting time for the next dish to arrive. Surely they did it perfectly by having “free” food arriving in-between. But it took us 3.5hish to finish it!! Assuming IF we had opted for the 10course one, it would easily take up to 4h – only for food @. @ insane – but overall an experience worth remembering (^_^)”

Overall Experience: 8.0/10 (would be 8.5 without the Dove thing)
