As my son’s nursery school has for the month of March the theme “animals”, we decided to visit the Aquarium Berlin during our Berlin trip this time. Plus, J loves animals in general. 😉
The Aquarium Berlin is one of the largest aquariums in Germany and was built in 1913 as part of the Zoological Garden complex in Berlin. Since its opening, the Aquarium Zoo has been classified among the public aquariums with the greatest biodiversity in the world. More than 9,000 animals are presented on three floors. It contains jellyfish, tropical and native fish, crocodiles, and a wide variety of insects. With a combination ticket visitors can visit both the aquarium and the zoo.
Since we went to the zoo last time, we only went to the aquarium this time; the weather forecast also predicted rain…
Ticket entrance is currently 17.50€ for adults and 9€ for children between 4-15 years old. We started our visit on the lower floor, where the underwater organisms are. J was very impressed by all the different sea animals’ varieties.
On the second floor, we visited the Crocodile Hall. And J got excited when he saw the different types of geckos (as he is currently into PJ Masks and one of the characters/ heroes there is a Gekko 😀 ).
Perhaps my son got too excited on the first two floors that he lost interest on the third floor, which focuses on insects (among others). We went to the top floor although it was more of a resting/ sitting than walking/ seeing around.
Overall, we spent about 1.5 hours at the Aquarium Berlin, which is not too bad. For me this was my second visit to the Aquarium Berlin. Personally, I prefer the zoo to the aquarium and I would visit the zoo next time, considering that the entrance price for both cost the same. However, it is a nice indoor activity for kids especially when the weather outside is not great.
