If you have followed my blog for a while, then you might have noticed that, when I am having Asian cuisine outside, it was mostly either at Japanese or Vietnamese restaurant places. I barely eat out at Chinese restaurants since I am having Chinese food (almost) every day at home. And there is truly no better food than a home-cooked meal đ Therefore, if I eat Chinese food outside, then I mostly go for dishes that are very time-consuming to prepare these at home…
For some reasons, my tummy was craving for Peking Duck recently and I decided to go to a Chinese restaurant, which is specialist in preparing this type of dish. There are a few Peking Duck restaurants that are popular in Berlin, among Asians, locals and tourists; one is located in the district area Charlottenburg, called âGood Friendsâ (èćèź°in Chinese) and the other âPeking Ente Berlinâ. Peking Ente Berlin got its âfameâ, if I can say that, (mostly) through the media since itâs one of the most favorite Chinese restaurants in Berlin for the Pianist Lang Lang. Moreover, other celebritiesâ have also made a stop at this place like US singer Barbra Streisand.
So, is the whole hype worth it? Getting a table at this restaurant wasnât that easy. This time I booked a table more than one week in advance. I wanted to visit it few months ago already but there were no table free to the time that suited me. Since I came for the Peking Duck â it was obviously that we ordered one (minimum order for 2 people). The price is âŹ44 that comes with 12 pancake slices and dipping sauce. The âleftoverâ of the duck meat was served as an additional dish in soy sauce. Moreover, if you want to order duck soup as well, there is an extra charge of âŹ8.50 (most restaurants in China (!) wonât charge you for that). Site note: I forgot to take an afterwards picture of the Peking Duck â Donât get fooled by the huge portion size. They filled it inside with crab chips and decorated the surrounding with duck meat only. Besides that we also ordered seasonal vegetables and my all-time favourite dish: jellyfish salad (I was a bit disappointed with this one. They normally doesnât get served with that much cabbage) đ
Overall Experience: 6.8/10 (It wasnât the best Peking Duck experience that I have had. And I have been to a lot. The duck was cooked a bit too oily and the taste of the duck was so-so for the price what they charge. I might come back to this restaurant to try other dishes on their menu but surely not again the Peking Duck. It was a bit away from the authentic taste that I know from the original ones in BEIJING. In terms of table reservation â I would recommend doing a reservation upfront, especially when you donât have a âplan Bâ. However, itâs not necessary since I have seen people (even in groups) coming spontaneously to this restaurant and still got a table)
