Nihombashi

The area around the underground station Rosenthaler Platz (U8) has changed dramatically over the past few years; especially the food scene. Restaurant owners seem to find the location spot, when it comes to opening new restaurants in Berlin.

I don’t pass this area that often, but every time I do, it’s only because to try out a new restaurant that catches my attention. This time I visited the relatively new sushi place called Nihombashi, which is opposite to Gogogi (one of the Korean place in town). The owners behind Nihombashi are the same ones behind Long March Canteen, Yumcha Heroes and Roi & Pris).

A lot of people seem to be talking about this sushi place mostly because of its interior design that stands out from the other Sushi places. I do admit that when you enter this place its interior design is quite unique – kind of “pop-art” with its funky and bright colour or maybe some would even describe it with “kawaii” 😉

Their menu is divided into sushi and kushiyaki (skewers). Beside the “standard” sushi, they also offer vegetarian sushi and unique sushi creations that you normally won’t find elsewhere – such as in combination with asparagus, sweet potatoes or yellow carrots etc.

We went for their sake menu, that comes with maki, nigiri and inside out. You simply can’t go wrong with salmon. That’s why I also tried their pink salmon roll (avocado, cucumber, red onion, and coriander with lime juice surrounded by salmon). Super nice this one. Their unagi sushi was tasty as well. What comes into my attention was that the filling (like the salmon) stands more in centre than the rice. Where in some sushi places you might just find a tiny bit of filling surrounded by rice.

Overall experience: 7.5 (nice sushi place, salmon was fresh but the rice could be done better. Not the cheapest sushi place to eat and staffs were okay).

Anyway, I am already looking forward for my next sushi adventure at 893 Ryōtei. Review will come up later this month. So, stay tuned 😉
