This place is “relatively” new opened and I came across this by coincidence. From the outside you will never guess that 893 Ryōtei is one of the most exquisite Japanese restaurant in the city (from the same owner, who also runs Kuchi, Madame Ngo, Cocolo Ramen and Funky Fisch next to 893 Ryotei).
With all the graffiti’s on the dirty mirrored wall this place looks bit “doggy”, but it’s on purpose since the exterior design should match the restaurant name right? If you know Japanese slang, then “893” means YA-KU-ZA (Japanese Mafia). However, once you stepped inside the restaurant, it feels bit like into a different place – with all the elegant interior design and an open kitchen and bar. Moreover, the mirrored wall are made of “one-way” glass meaning you can’t see anything what’s happening inside but all the guests inside have a perfect view of what’s happening outside on the street.
893 Ryōtei is only open between Tuesday to Sunday from 6.30pm till 12am. Getting a table is not impossible but requires days in advance booking if not weeks, especially when you want to dine here on a weekend. Once you selected your time slot the table is only reserved for 2hish.
We started off with some EDAMAME (young soy beans, sea salt) (€5) Followed by TAKO (grilled octopus, tomato, avocado, seas am dressing) (€14) – Definitely worth being mentioned on the “Chef’s Recommendation” list 😉 IKA TEMPURA (squid, jalapeño, qp-mayo) (€13) The main highlight SASHIMI MORIAWASE (€21) and NIGIRI MORIAWASE (€20) It’s incredibly expensive that this plate alone cost €41 and it only took us about 15minish before it all goes down into the tummy *hahah* Nevertheless, the sashimi’s were super tender and fresh. You really pay for quality here and you can tell that only the freshest fish were used.
YASAI YAKI UDON (pak choi, Japanese mushrooms, udon, nori, sesame) (€16) Even though we ordered a lot of food, there was still space for dessert 😀 MATCHA (green tea tiramisu, green tea ice-cream, peanuts) (€7) – amazing this one!! Overall Experience: 9/10 (Everything tasted fabulous. Only minus that they reserved the tables strictly for 2h! After that the staffs will ask you to seat on the bar to make space for the other guests. At certain point, from the business perspective (only!), I can understand that, because they want to make as much money as possible in one night. However, on the customer perspective that’s super rude!! Especially, when each of the guests easily spends over €100Euros for the food & drinks)
