Yeah, finally back to Amsterdam again. I don’t know when I will be back the next time, since C will be relocated for work. On the one hand, I am bit upset since I have started to develop a “feeling” for this city – after all, this city has become a “third home” to me. And there are still so many places that are waiting for me to discover here…

One thing (among many others) where C and I have in common is that we both love good food. I normally pick out the cuisine direction (Eastern or Western food) and C chooses the restaurant. Great teamwork, right? 😀

Since I was in the mood for Asian food tonight, we tried out Ron Gastrobar Oriental, which is located in the city centre of Amsterdam. Owned by Ron Blaauw, a Michelin-star chef, who runs several Gastrobars in the city.

We arrived after 9.30pmish and the place was still very good visited. Luckily, even without reservation, we were still able to get a table at the bar.

(please note: since I took the following pictures with my phone, the quality isn’t so good due to the dim light of the restaurant…)

Before our food arrived, they gave us for starter homemade prawn crackers. Nice touch to start the evening with 😛

Dai Tie Sieuw Mai (Steamed Sieuw Mai with scallop, Chinese mushroom and scallion)

Ngap Sha Lut (Rice vermicelli salad with duck and cashew nut dressing)Yuan Hok Hai (Soft shell crab with kai-lan and sweet soy sauce)

Hung Siu Ngao Zuk (Sugar braised short rib with pickled cabbage and congee)Suut Yu (Catch of the day with bumbu Bali, coconut sauce and crispy chicken skin)

We finished our meal with these little cute ice cream cones 🙂

Truly a very nice dining experience. Should I be back in Amsterdam the next time, Ron Gastrobar will surely be on my list to explore again, especially Ron Gastrobar Paris, with its focus on French cuisine. A bientôt 😉  or

Overall Experience: 7/10 (cosy atmosphere, great service; however the food itself was okay. Some very nice, some so-so. Every food that they served was very lovely decorated but not authentic enough to call it proper Chinese food, it’s more like a Fusion one)
