Karneval der Kulturen (Carnival of Cultures) is a multicultural / street festival that happens every year on Pentecost weekend in Kreuzberg, Berlin. It is also, as far as I know, the biggest street festival in this city.
The main attraction is the big carnival parade on Sunday. It’s a great festival with colours, music and many happy people from around the world. Cultural organisations showcase music and dance performances on lavishly decorated trucks.
Unfortunately, I missed the parade this year. I went there on Whit Monday because I had friends coming over and we decided spontaneously to make a short stop there. Plus, weather was perfect for outdoor activities.
Beside, many artists, bands and DJs playing live music, you will also get the chance to taste many street food and drinks from different nationalities.
If you happen to be in Berlin around Pentecost weekend next time, make sure to put this event on your Must-See List for Berlin. It’s not a festival that you have to see it every year (depending on personal interest) but you should see it at least once, when you have the chance.
