Greece: Athens (1)

I got a few days off from work and combined it with the weekend in-between it was a perfect time off for a short vacation trip. Either C or I had been to Greece before, and so we decided to pick this location, also to celebrate our first Valentine’s Day there. Whereas most places in Europe showed below 10°C (or like in Berlin even below 0°C) Athens showed sunny 15°C plus (during the daytime). And I seriously was in need of more sun and to relax my mind a bit after a stressful month at work, and to get myself fully recharged after a cold.

From Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” to our place was either 1) a 45mins car ride with UBER or 2) bit more than an hour by public transportations. We opted for the second options since our hotel was located in the city centre (Syntagma) and the metro would take us directly there without the need to change.

The airport metro costs €9 p.p. and runs every 30mins. Make sure to bring €uros with you since the ticket machines don’t accept payment by cards and so does the staffs at the counter.

C booked us at Electra Metropolis Hotel, which is literally located in the heart of the city and within walking distance to all the main POIs in Athens. The location is perfect, and so does our room… 🙂

Their toiletries comes with organic KORRES amenities

Unfortunately, we didn’t get a room with the view towards the Acropolis. However, their Metropolis Roof Garden and M bar on the 10th floor totally make it up for. It also offers a roof top pool, which I’m sure will be more popular and in use during the hot summer time…

Our first day in Athens was relatively chilled out. Check-in at the hotel, checked-out the M bar and enjoying the peaceful view of the city, while getting ourselves ready for dinner.

Like most Southern European countries dinner starts late, hence, it wasn’t easy to find a nice place – not too touristy where the kitchen is already open.

We ended up at Savvas. Staffs were friendly but service is not the fastest. It took a while for the food to arrive…

Grilled Eggplant Salad

Twister Zucchini: fresh zucchini cut twister style with yoghurt sauce

Mix Grill Savvas

APIANI – Greek digestive drink

It was way too much food and meat!! And the portions size were huge. A surely great dining experience with a fantastic view of the Acropolis.

I can’t wait to walk up the hills tomorrow and be there finally in person! 🙂
